An Evening Of Theatre And Giving

Local Theatre Group Teams Up With Community Organization To Help Raise Money

Ebony Repertory Theatre is teaming up with Crystal Stairs Inc., one of the largest private, non-profit child care and development corporations in California, to host a night at the theatre. Part of the proceeds from the Thursday, October 30, 8 p.m. showing of “Two Trains Running” will be donated to Crystal Stairs to support its child care work throughout the county. The performance is taking place at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4718 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, 90016.

“Two Trains Running” is a play written by August Wilson. Set in a Pittsburg coffee shop in 1969, the regulars talk about two significant events planned for the same day: the funeral of a prominent local preacher and a protest rally spurred by the assassination of Malcolm X. Yet the patrons are more involved in their own everyday problems and concerns: the neighborhood's gentrification and the return of an ex-con who woos the bitter waitress.

Tickets can be purchased at the Nate Holden box office or via internet at www.itsmyseat.com. Be sure to enter the code word CHRYSTAL.

Crystal Stairs, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of families through child care services, research and advocacy, has released a research report that tracked poverty and income impacts of child care subsidies. This event will sponsor the ongoing efforts of the organization.
